You enjoy food, and you care about your friends and family, that is why you are interested in For the Love of Food Project. The possibility of this project is that by hosting a simple dinner party, and providing your friends and family with a meal that teaches them to eat more fruits and vegetables, you can reverse the rising trend in diet-related diseases.
Why this project was created: Heart disease accounts for 30% of deaths around the world, high blood pressure affects more than 25% of adults. Rates of obesity have increased dramatically, and among children obesity has tripled in the past two decades. Concurrently diabetes mellitus has become an epidemic; the prevalence of diagnosis in the United States has increased by 61% in the past decade. Unless a new approach is taken it is almost certain that more and more of us, including our children will be impacted and for the first time this generation may not live longer than the last.
“There is substantial evidence showing that a single dietary change, increasing fruits and vegetables can help to reverse some if not all of these trends (1)”. How you can help: You can give your friends the experience of a meal where they can learn how to prepare and eat more produce. The goal is to create a future where the risk of diet-related disease is much lower. Please invite your friends and family to dinner.
